A tutoring company paid $365,000 because its hiring software rejected older applicants.
The EEOC said iTutorGroup set its application software to reject women 55 and older and men 60 and older. The company settled in 2023.
The short version
The EEOC said iTutorGroup programmed its application software to automatically reject women aged 55 or older, and men aged 60 or older.
By the EEOC's count, that's more than 200 qualified applicants. The money goes to them, plus new training and an anti-discrimination policy.
If a tool screens your applicants, ask your vendor this week: what exactly is it filtering on?
